Huff, Powell & Bailey is the leading law firm for medical malpractice, long-term care and insurance defense in Georgia and the Carolinas. With limited content search capabilities, the growing legal teams were unable to make the best use of knowledge gained in previous cases. After migrating to iManage Work 10 in the Cloud, legal teams save and rapidly uncover contextually relevant content, expertise, best practices and insights. They save time and easily access knowledge while the small IT team can direct its resources away from managing servers and focus its energy more productively.
The challenge
Helping the people that help, efficiently and securely
As the organization grew, Huff, Powell & Bailey realized that using only Microsoft Outlook and Word to manage vital documents was not a viable way forward. Finding documents relating to a specific topic or case was very time consuming and relied primarily on memory. It was important for attorneys at trial or taking depositions at hospitals to be able to access every document in a case.
The firm needed a document and email management solution with a single, accurate search capability so legal teams could rapidly uncover contextually relevant content, expertise, best practices and insights, no matter where these were stored. The legal teams also needed relief from cumbersome filing requirements. The right solution would reduce administrative overhead and enable the firm to make better use of knowledge captured on previous cases.
The solution
Migrating to the next-generation solution in the cloud
Huff, Powell & Bailey knew the time had come to refresh its legacy on-premises hardware. As a long-time iManage customer, the firm opted to migrate their data to the iManage Cloud. It made sense from a business perspective to update from their iManage FileSite repository to the next-generation solution, iManage Work, at the same time.
iManage Work 10 is fully supported in the cloud and seamlessly integrated with Microsoft Office and Outlook, so teams can easily save documents and attachments right from the applications they are working in. As a bonus, iManage Work integrates with the firm’s Orion billing system, so whenever a new case is opened, the script automatically creates a new workspace in iManage.
"Users love iManage Work. They love being able to immediately file emails and document attachments directly into the appropriate case file at just a click of a button," said Tricia Boughter, Executive Director, Huff, Powell & Bailey.
The benefits
Devoting more time to practicing law
People can now work from anywhere, on any device, with a consistent interface. Attorneys are confident that any materials they need are safe and available for immediate access, backed up in the iManage Cloud. Even new attorneys adapt easily to the familiar interface, which is akin to Windows Explorer and other consumer applications.
Describing iManage as “the backbone of Huff, Powell & Bailey’s operation,” Boughter says that everybody knows exactly where to go to get what they need.
And with document and email management now in the cloud, the IT team no longer spends its time managing servers, and can instead devote their time to value-added activities for the firm.
Looking ahead
As Huff, Powell & Bailey continues on the path to growth, scalability is critical, and iManage delivers. The firm is impressed by the ease and speed of adding additional space and buying new licenses.
“I don’t have to worry about the location, security or accuracy of my documents because iManage just works,” concludes Boughter. “iManage will continue to be a business critical tool for us, allowing us to concentrate on helping those who help.”
